For people who enjoy spending time with older adults, helping others and making a meaningful difference in someone’s day, JFS at Home is offering an opportunity that provides something valuable on both sides of the relationship.

“JFS at Home is currently recruiting caring, dependable individuals to serve as companions to older adults throughout the community. The paid positions may be especially appealing to semi-retired or retired adults who want to remain active, earn supplemental income and put their time and life experience to meaningful use,” said Marissa Gordon, CEO/Administrator of JFS at Home.

Companions provide much more than assistance. They offer human connection.

Depending on a client’s individual needs, a companion may provide socialization and recreation, transportation to appointments and activities, meal preparation, light housekeeping, assistance with errands and other everyday support. Most importantly, companions help older adults remain active, engaged and connected to the community.

For an older adult who may be experiencing increased isolation, limited mobility or distance from family, having a dependable companion can make a significant difference in quality of life. A companion can be someone to talk with, laugh with, share an activity with or simply look forward to seeing.

For companions, the relationship can be equally rewarding.

“The ideal candidate is someone who might otherwise enjoy volunteering with older adults but would welcome the opportunity to turn that desire to give back into flexible, paid work. JFS at Home is seeking compassionate people who genuinely enjoy engaging with seniors and helping them maintain their independence and quality of life,” said Gordon.
